This year I drank some of
the best red wines that I
have ever tasted. The first
two wines are sadly no
longer available in the
store.
First, a Spanish wine made
by Barahonda called Bellum
(2003) from 100% old
vine Mourvedre.
If you like big, bold,
velvety and luscious reds,
then seek this wine out in
your travels. Besides being
one of the best wines that I
have ever tasted, it was
only $16!
The 2002 Quilceda Creek
Cabernet from Washington is
an amazing wine. The
perfect balance and
extremely long finish made
me want to drink a second
bottle. Robert Parker’s
Wine Advocate rated this
wine at 100 points and I
would say it is pretty darn
close to perfect.
At one of Teller Wines’
classes this year we opened
a bottle of 2002 Harlan
Estate Cabernet. This is
one of Napa ’s finest wines
(another 100 pointer from
the Wine Advocate). This is
an amazingly rich wine with
incredible complexity. I
would drink this wine every
day if my last name was
Gates or Walton. Teller
Wines has both the Harlan
and Harlan’s Bond in stock.
The final splurge wine is a
beautiful Chianti from
Poggio Al Sole called ‘Casasilia’,
one of the greatest
vineyards in Italy . This
is a must try at only $35.
